Reports to:
• The Steward is directly responsible and accountable to the Commissary or Snack Bar Manager on duty, and ultimately accountable to the Captain of the vessel while underway.
Supervises:
• None
Description of Duties:
The Steward operates the cash register, handles cash and assist with food preparation and packaging.
• Perform food preparation duties such as preparing salads, sandwiches, light cooking, frying and packaging prepared foods.
• Stock service areas with supplies and condiments.
• Ensure that food areas are clean and sanitary.
• Operate cash register.
• Collect payments from customers
• Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements:
• HS diploma or equivalent
• At least two years of food service experience required
• Valid U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariner’s Credential
• Must pass a pre-employment drug test.
• Valid TWIC care or must have completed the enrollment process with TSA
• Good communication skills
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to operate a computer terminal, telephones and standard office equipment.
• The physical evaluation guidelines for employment aboard BPPJ vessels are based on the United States Coast Guard NAVIC 04-08 “Medical and Physical Evaluation Guidelines for Merchant Mariner Credentials.
Salary: $16-$17 an hour
